Mental health therapy is provided to individuals, groups and/or families by one of our state licensed clinicians in the following settings to address any of the below listed treatment issues.
Individual Therapy
Treatment services are provided on an individual and private basis to assist each resident with their presenting mental/behavioral health need(s). The amount, scope and duration of individual therapy services may vary depending on the stage of the presenting mental health need, treatment program and the resident’s response to the treatment approach.
Family Therapy
Treatment services are provided to each resident using the natural or substitute family as the means to facilitate positive family interactions among individuals. The focus resident may not always need to be present for family therapy services; however, the services will deal with issues relating to the constructive integration/reintegration of the resident into the family.
Group Therapy
Treatment services are facilitated by our therapist utilizing the interactions of more than one resident and the focus of the group to address behavioral health needs and interpersonal relationships. Group therapy may focus on skill development for learning new coping skills, such as stress reduction, or changing maladaptive behavior, such as anger management. Depression Treatment
Depression Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Depression is more than sadness. It’s exhaustion, numbness, losing interest in what used to matter. You might look fine from the outside while feeling completely disconnected on the inside. Maybe you’ve been managing for years, getting through the day but never actually feeling present in your own life.
At our Scottsdale treatment center, we don’t just prescribe medication and hope for the best. We use neurofeedback to retrain your brain’s patterns, somatic therapies to address how depression lives in your body, and evidence-based approaches like CBT and ACT to shift the thought patterns that keep you stuck.
Types of Depressive Disorders We Treat
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
- Treatment-Resistant Depression
- High-Functioning Depression
- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
- Situational Depression
Our Depression Treatment Approach
Depression often has roots in unprocessed experiences, nervous system dysregulation, or patterns that formed long before you had words for them. Our clinical team combines medication management (when appropriate), brain-based therapies, and deep therapeutic work to address what’s actually driving your symptoms, not just the symptoms themselves.
Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety Disorder Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
A nervous system stuck in overdrive affects everything: your sleep, your focus, your relationships, your ability to just sit still. You might know logically that you’re safe, but your body hasn’t gotten the message. The racing thoughts, the physical tension, the constant what-ifs are exhausting.
We treat all types of anxiety at our Scottsdale center, serving clients across the Phoenix metro area. Our approach goes beyond traditional talk therapy to include neurofeedback, breathwork, and somatic techniques that actually calm your nervous system, not just teach you to “cope” with chronic activation.
Anxiety Disorders We Treat
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Social Anxiety Disorder
- Panic Disorder
- Health Anxiety (Illness Anxiety)
- Specific Phobias
- OCD
- Performance Anxiety
- Agoraphobia
Our Anxiety Treatment Approach
Anxiety isn’t just “in your head,” it’s a whole-body experience. That’s why we use neurofeedback to retrain anxious brain patterns, breathwork to regulate your autonomic nervous system, and DBT skills to give you tools that actually work in the moment. We’ve watched clients go from constant panic to genuine calm, not by avoiding triggers, but by changing how their nervous system responds.
Trauma & PTSD Treatment
Trauma & PTSD Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Trauma rewires your nervous system. It shows up in how you react, sleep, and connect, often without you realizing why. You might be triggered by things that seem unrelated to what happened, or feel numb when you want to feel present. The hypervigilance, the flashbacks, the sense that you’re never quite safe: these aren’t personal failures. They’re your nervous system doing what it was designed to do.
Our Scottsdale trauma specialists use EMDR, neurofeedback, and somatic therapies to help you process what happened, not by reliving it endlessly, but by completing the stress response your body has been holding onto.
Trauma & PTSD Conditions We Treat
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Complex Trauma (C-PTSD)
- Childhood Trauma
- Developmental Trauma
- Acute Stress Disorder
- Medical Trauma
Our Trauma Treatment Approach
Talk therapy alone often isn’t enough for trauma, because trauma isn’t stored in the logical part of your brain. Our clinical team is trained in body-based modalities like Somatic Experiencing (trained directly with Peter Levine) and EMDR. We combine these with neurofeedback to help your brain shift out of survival mode. Bessel van der Kolk’s work showed that trauma changes brain structure, and our approach is built on the science of changing it back.
Bipolar Disorder Treatment
Bipolar Disorder Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
The highs and lows can make life feel unpredictable, and exhausting. You might cycle between periods of intense energy and motivation, then crash into depression that makes getting out of bed feel impossible. The manic episodes might have felt productive at first, until they led to decisions you regret. The depressive episodes might have been dismissed as “just being tired.”
At Redefine in Scottsdale, we combine medication management with therapy and brain-based tools to help you find real stability, not the kind that flattens you, but the kind that lets you actually live your life.
Types of Bipolar Disorder We Treat
- Bipolar I Disorder
- Bipolar II Disorder
- Cyclothymic Disorder
- Mood Instability
- Mixed Episodes
- Rapid Cycling Bipolar
Our Bipolar Disorder Treatment Approach
Bipolar disorder requires careful, individualized treatment. Our psychiatrist works closely with our therapy team to find the right medication balance while neurofeedback helps regulate the brain patterns underlying mood swings. We also focus heavily on psychoeducation: understanding your cycles, identifying early warning signs, and building a life structure that supports stability without feeling like a prison.
Borderline Personality Disorder Treatment
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Treatment in Scottsdale
Borderline personality disorder often gets misunderstood, even by clinicians. The intense emotions, the fear of abandonment, the relationship patterns that feel impossible to change. These aren’t character flaws. They’re survival adaptations that made sense once but aren’t serving you now. You learned to feel deeply, to watch for signs of rejection, to protect yourself from pain, and now those very skills are causing pain.
DBT was literally designed for this, and our team is extensively trained in it. We serve clients from Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, and throughout the East Valley.
BPD Symptoms & Patterns We Treat
- Intense Relationships
- Fear of Abandonment
- Identity Instability
- Impulsivity
- Emotional Intensity
- Chronic Emptiness
Our BPD Treatment Approach
DBT provides concrete skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. But we don’t stop there. We also explore the developmental experiences that shaped these patterns, helping you understand why you react the way you do while building the tools to respond differently. The goal isn’t to become a different person, it’s to become more fully yourself, without the chaos.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Addiction and mental health issues feed each other. Treating one while ignoring the other doesn’t work, we’ve seen it too many times. The drinking that started as anxiety management becomes its own problem. The trauma that drove the substance use stays untreated. The depression deepens when the substances stop working. You’ve probably already tried treating them separately. That’s why you’re still searching.
At our Scottsdale treatment center, we address both together because that’s what actually creates lasting change.
Co-Occurring Disorders We Treat
- Addiction + Depression
- Addiction + Anxiety
- Addiction + Trauma/PTSD
- Addiction + Bipolar Disorder
- Self-Medicating Patterns
- Relapse Cycles
Our Dual Diagnosis Treatment Approach
True dual diagnosis treatment means your addiction therapist and your mental health therapist are on the same team, or often the same person. We use trauma-focused modalities to address the root causes driving substance use while building the coping skills and nervous system regulation that make sobriety sustainable. Neurofeedback has been particularly effective for our clients with co-occurring disorders.
Emotional Regulation Treatment
Emotional Dysregulation Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Your emotions feel bigger than other people’s. Small things trigger big reactions. You might go from fine to overwhelmed in seconds, or struggle to calm down once you’re activated. The intensity is exhausting, for you and often for the people around you. This isn’t a personality flaw, it’s a nervous system that never learned how to regulate, often because it wasn’t taught or because it was overwhelmed early.
We serve clients throughout the Phoenix Valley who struggle with emotional intensity that interferes with their relationships, work, and daily life.
Emotional Regulation Challenges We Treat
- Intense Emotional Reactions
- Mood Swings
- Difficulty Calming Down
- Rejection Sensitivity
- Emotional Exhaustion
- Impulsive Responses
Our Emotional Regulation Treatment Approach
DBT skills training is central to our approach, teaching you to identify emotions before they take over, tolerate distress without making things worse, and communicate needs effectively. But we also use neurofeedback to directly train your brain’s regulation capacity and somatic therapies to help your body learn what calm actually feels like. The combination is powerful.
Burnout & Stress Treatment
Stress & Burnout Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Burnout builds slowly until everything feels like too much. You might be functioning, showing up, getting things done, but barely. The exhaustion isn’t just physical; it’s emotional and mental. You’ve lost the passion that used to drive you. Small tasks feel monumental. You’re running on fumes and willpower, and both are running out.
At our Scottsdale center, we help high-achieving professionals understand what’s driving the burnout and rebuild a pace they can actually sustain.
Types of Burnout & Chronic Stress We Treat
- Chronic Exhaustion
- Occupational Burnout
- Caregiver Burnout
- Compassion Fatigue
- Emotional Depletion
- Loss of Purpose
Our Burnout Treatment Approach
Burnout often isn’t about doing too much, it’s about being depleted while doing it. We address the nervous system dysregulation that makes everything feel harder than it should, explore the beliefs and patterns driving unsustainable behavior, and help you rebuild from a place of actual resource. Our Professionals Reset Retreat is specifically designed for executives and professionals who need intensive support without a long-term commitment.
Grief & Loss Treatment
Grief & Loss Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Loss changes you, whether it’s recent or something you’ve carried for years. Grief doesn’t follow the neat stages you read about. It comes in waves, sometimes when you least expect it. You might feel fine one moment and gutted the next. The people around you may have moved on, but you’re still holding the weight of what’s gone.
Our Scottsdale therapists specialize in helping people navigate all kinds of loss, without rushing the timeline or telling you how you should feel.
Types of Grief & Loss We Treat
- Death of a Loved One
- Complicated Grief
- Anticipatory Grief
- Ambiguous Loss
- Prolonged Grief Disorder
- Traumatic Loss
Our Grief Counseling Approach
Grief work isn’t about “getting over it,” it’s about learning to carry what’s been lost while still being present in your life. We create space for the full range of grief emotions, including the ones that feel unacceptable. When grief becomes complicated or intertwined with trauma, we have the clinical tools to address that complexity. Sometimes grief needs witnessing more than it needs fixing.
Anger Management Treatment
Anger Management Treatment in Scottsdale, Arizona
Anger often gets a bad reputation, but it’s not the problem, it’s what happens when anger takes over. The outbursts you regret, the relationships it damages, the way it leaves you feeling out of control. You might scare yourself sometimes. Or maybe you turn it inward, where it becomes depression or self-sabotage. Underneath anger there’s usually something else: hurt, fear, a boundary that keeps getting crossed.
We help clients across the Phoenix area understand their anger and learn to work with it rather than being controlled by it.
Anger-Related Issues We Treat
- Frequent Irritability
- Explosive Outbursts
- Passive Aggression
- Road Rage
- Difficulty Calming Down
- Relationship Damage from Anger
Our Anger Management Treatment Approach
Anger is often a surface emotion protecting something more vulnerable underneath. Our approach addresses both the immediate need for regulation skills and the deeper exploration of what’s driving the intensity. We use DBT skills for impulse control, somatic work to help your body release chronic tension, and therapy to understand the patterns. Anger isn’t something to eliminate, it’s something to transform.
Life Transitions Counseling
Life Transitions & Adjustment Counseling in Scottsdale
Not everything that brings you to therapy comes with a diagnosis. Sometimes life just gets hard: a divorce, a career change, relationship struggles, the weight of caring for aging parents. You don’t need a clinical label to need support. These transitions can shake your sense of identity, your relationships, your confidence in what comes next.
Our Scottsdale therapists help people across the Valley navigate life’s most difficult transitions, the ones that don’t have a clear roadmap.
Life Transitions & Stressors We Help With
- Divorce & Separation
- Relationship Issues
- Parenting Challenges
- Caregiver Stress
- Career Transitions
- Empty Nest Syndrome
- Retirement Adjustment
- Relocation Stress
- Midlife Crisis
- Identity Changes
- Infidelity Recovery
- Blended Family Challenges
Our Life Transitions Counseling Approach
Life transitions often bring up old patterns, unresolved grief, or questions about who you are and what you want. We provide a space to process the complexity of change while building the skills to navigate it. Sometimes you need someone to help you see what you can’t see yourself: the patterns, the choices, the possibilities. That’s what we’re here for.
Aside from therapeutic treatment, education is also the foremost interest of clients and their parents.
Although New Beginnings is not a school, it’s our mission to assist each client with the continuation of their education while away from the home. Many parents elect to have their child participate in online learning through a fully accredited online education system within the Canyons School District.
Residents attending the online school have the benefit of accessing a virtual campus from the convenience of New Beginnings. Coursework is often completed at their own pace, time, and schedule with the same accreditation offered through in-person public schools.
New Beginnings staff, while not teachers or teaching para-professionals serve as learning supports at a ratio of 1:4 to assist clients with their educational needs.
Additional Mental Health Treatment
Other Mental Health Conditions We Treat in Scottsdale
Not every struggle fits a textbook diagnosis. If something feels off and you’re not sure what it is, reach out. We work with complex presentations and situations that don’t have a clean label. Maybe you’ve seen multiple providers who each gave you a different diagnosis. Maybe nothing has quite fit. Maybe you just know something isn’t right and you need help figuring out what it is.
Our clinical team at our Scottsdale location will help you understand what’s going on and build a treatment plan that makes sense for you, even if your situation is complicated.
Additional Issues We Help With
- Complex Presentations
- Self-Esteem Issues
- Perfectionism
- People-Pleasing

- Attachment Issues
Not Sure Where You Fit?
That’s okay. Most of our clients don’t arrive with clear answers, they arrive with questions and pain and a sense that something needs to change. Our assessment process is designed to understand the full picture of what you’re experiencing, not just check diagnostic boxes. We’ll figure it out together.
